Dania Beach Septic Cleaning Services
A Dania Beach septic tank is an underground wastewater or drainage treatment system.A septic system works by taking waste water or sewage from a dwelling through a pipe that flows into a septic tank. Sludge from the waste water settles at the bottom of the tank and water flows through a series of underground pipes into a drain field. Waste water from the drain field is filtered by the soil. Keeping a septic system working properly requires thoughtful use of water and avoiding substances that can cause it to malfunction.
Water conservation helps keep the septic system working properly. For example, washing clothes when there is a full load and spreading wash loads through out the week can reduce the amount of water that flows into the septic system. Using low flow shower heads and taking shorter showers also helps. In addition to large amounts of waste water, other actions that contribute to septic system problems include flushing or pouring harsh chemicals such as pesticides, cleansers and drain cleaners into the septic system.
These substances kill off bacteria responsible for breaking down solids in the tank. Frequent use of garbage disposals and flushing paper towels, facial tissue or items made with plastic can contribute to sludge buildup in the tank which will cause the tank to malfunction. Toilet paper is designed so biodegradable so it decomposes easily so it should not cause problems under normal circumstances. Avoid planting trees and other vegetation with deep roots near or over septic systems.
Vehicles and heavy equipment should not be driven over septic tanks or lines. Water from gutters or runoff from hills should not be allowed to drain near or over the septic system. Additives that increase bacterial action are not necessary because bacteria are already present in the tank as a result of wastewater. This will cause solids to break down and enable the tank to operate properly.
Partially decomposed solids settle on the bottom of the septic tank. If allowed to remain, over time sludge builds up and can cause sewage backups. Pumping the sludge from the septic tank every three to five years will keep it working properly. The sludge level in a septic tank can be measured.
Septic tanks have an inspection port where a long pole, about 6 feet in length, can be inserted to measure the level of sludge. To measure the sludge level, the pole should be wrapped in white cloth or material then inserted into the tank through the observation port. The pole should be held straight and allowed to rest on the bottom of the tank for two to three minutes, then measure the length of the stain. If the length of stain is twenty inches or more, it is time to have the tank pumped and the date recorded.
Sometimes problems occur with septic systems. There may be back ups, leaks, and tree roots that grow into the lines. The good news is that septic system repair does not have to be costly or result in digging up a lawn. New technologies enable repairs to be made using techniques that can preserve landscaping.
When the problem is near the main line that leads from the dwelling, hydro jetting can be used to remove clogs. This process injects water under high pressure to open lines by clearing out soap, hair and other matter that may clog lines.
